A FAMILY OIL MILL,
KNOWLEDGE HANDED DOWN
THROUGH TIME.
The Ancient Trampolini Oil Mill is one of the oldest oil mills in Umbria, the only one still present within the city of Perugia.
Our story begins in 1265, when the Order of the Knights Templar built the oil mill near the Templar Church of San Bevignate, which was erected a few years earlier and is the only one of its kind still existing in Italy.
With the fall of the Order, the oil mill continued its operation, becoming a monastery. Around 1500, the Friars themselves expanded the building, reaching its current size.
In 1785, the history of the Trampolini family began as they became its owners, passing down “the art of making oil” from generation to generation. Evidence of this can be found in the artifacts and tools present in the museum within the oil mill, which bear witness to the history and culture of the “oil civilization,” offering visitors a unique experience to immerse themselves in the art and tradition of Extra Virgin Olive Oil production in Umbria.

THE OIL MUSEUM
Inside the oil mill, you can admire a selection of historical machinery, such as the 13th-century Assisi pink stone millstone, pulled by oxen, and the “De Laval” centrifugal separator from the early 1900s, among the first models for olive paste extraction.
We also find a granite millstone from the Dolomites with a cast iron structure, one of the first to be electrically operated, and various terracotta jars from the 17th and 19th centuries, used for decantation and preservation of the oil.
The exhibition is completed by the 1950s oil dispenser, the traditional fiscoli for pressing, and ancient wooden containers, such as the decaliter and 18th-century transport barrels. Each object is a window into the past, a testament to the link between tradition, territory, and passion for quality oil.
